Uri is building its future

Southwest of the Altdorf cantonal train station, a reserve area is gradually being transformed into a new business hub. All the building lots at Werkmatt Uri are now developed. At the same time, the Gotthard Business Park—the largest building construction project on the site to date—is getting underway.

At the end of July, Phase 2A of the infrastructure development was completed. This means that all construction sites in Werkmatt Uri are now technically accessible. The work included the extension of Eyschachenstrasse, the connection to Reussacherstrasse, and new roads and sidewalks. This benefits more than just motorized traffic. New connections for pedestrians and cyclists improve access to the Altdorf cantonal train station. The area is thus becoming more accessible via public transportation and better integrated into the daily lives of commuters.

Groundbreaking for 140 Jobs
Construction of the Gotthard Business Park has begun on Building Lot 11. Risa Immobilien SA is developing a four-story office and commercial building with approximately 4,000 square meters of usable space. The project is expected to create about 140 jobs. The facility is scheduled to open in 2028.

The Canton of Uri sold the property in early 2026. The project was originally initiated by the IG Innovationspark Gotthard consortium. With the change in ownership and the start of construction, the idea is now becoming a tangible component of the site’s development.

More Than Just a Business Park
The Werkmatt is not intended to remain a single-purpose workplace area. On construction lots 9 and 13, Werkmatt AG is planning projects for education, services, dining, and lodging. A building permit application has already been submitted for construction lot 13 for a multi-story hybrid wood structure featuring educational spaces, communal areas, and lodging facilities.

The historic flat-storage warehouse on Construction Site 9 is also set to take on a new role. Plans include a hotel, coworking spaces, retail, services, cultural offerings, and dining. This will create a mix of uses that brings together work, leisure, and social interaction in one place.

Eight hectares still await
Werkmatt Uri covers twelve hectares and is considered the last large land reserve in the Urner Talboden. Its location between the Altdorf cantonal train station and the future A2 highway interchange offers a rare combination of rail access and road connectivity.
Approximately eight hectares remain available for sale or for the granting of building rights. Thus, the recent start of construction is not the end, but rather the beginning of the next phase of development.
Uri is creating space for companies that don’t just want to pass through the Gotthard region but want to build value there.
