Knonauer Amt expands its business portfolio on the board

With Samuel Schweizer and Eveline Fenner, the Knonauer Amt Economic Development Agency has welcomed two new board members. Their election at the Annual General Meeting on 21 May 2026 strengthens the economic foundations of an organisation that brings together business attraction, energy efficiency and regional development.

The Knonauer Amt Economic Development Agency appointed a new board at its Annual General Meeting on 21 May 2026. Samuel Schweizer, Chief Executive of Ernst Schweizer AG in Hedingen, and Eveline Fenner have joined the board as two new members. For the region, this is more than just a personnel change: the organisation addresses issues ranging from business relocation and energy matters to regional value creation, all of which are directly linked to the development of the region as a business location.

Samuel Schweizer succeeds Sabine Weisbrod, whilst Eveline Fenner takes over the seat previously held by Eliane Studer Kilchenmann. President Marcel Strebel, Vice-President Ronald Adler and the remaining members of the ten-person board were re-elected until 2028. Publicly available information also shows that the location promotion body remains composed of equal numbers of representatives from the business and political sectors. It thus adheres to the model designed not only to manage regional development but also to coordinate it between local authorities and businesses.

Regional development policy with implications for construction and energy
This new appointment carries added weight because Samuel Schweizer represents a company with strong roots in construction, renovation and solar systems. Ernst Schweizer AG, headquartered in Hedingen, is one of the region’s leading industrial companies. When a senior figure of this calibre joins the board of a business development organisation, issues such as land use, commercial development, energy efficiency and business networks take on greater prominence in practical business location policy.

The organisation itself defines its remit broadly but specifically: it aims to strengthen the environmental, social and economic development of the Knonau district and to specifically attract companies from the health, high-tech and knowledge-based services sectors. For the property and construction sectors, this is particularly relevant where location targets intersect with available commercial land, repurposing, infrastructure and local authority procedures. Competition between locations is thus becoming more operational at a regional level.

Region focuses on networked development
The election comes at a time when the Knonau district is seeking to further strengthen its position between Zurich, Zug and the local centres. The location promotion body is not only working on image-related issues, but also on tangible development topics. These include energy and environmental projects, as well as issues relating to healthcare provision and the shaping of the region’s economic profile. It is precisely in such regional organisations that the composition of the executive board often determines how closely the business sector, local authorities and specific projects work together.

The election in May 2026 has therefore highlighted one thing above all: the Knonauer Amt is further strengthening the economic foundations of its business development efforts. Whether this leads to additional business settlements, new impetus for development or greater momentum in location-related projects will become apparent at the intersection of politics, land availability and business.
