Spreitenbach presents the winner of the competition for the Boostock footbridge

Spreitenbach AG, February 2024

The Boostocksteg in Spreitenbach is part of a comprehensive project for the urban and open space development of the municipality. A competition was organised for the new building, the results of which have now been presented by the municipality. The winning project team was Timbatec Holzbauingenieure Schweiz AG, Atelier Soto Freiraum & Landschaft and Winfried Schneider Produktdesign.

The Spreitenbach Spatial Development Strategy (RES 2030) emphasises the importance of the Boostocksteg as a connecting element between the historic village centre and the supra-regional Shoppi Tivoli, according to a press release from the municipality. The surrounding high-rise buildings dominate the townscape, while the planned central park is intended to act as a green link between residential areas, the village centre and the shopping centre.

The new suspension footbridge with pylon will cross Bahnhofstrasse and act as a prelude and gateway to the future park. The planned park will serve as a meeting point and recreational space for the local population and contribute to ecological connectivity, biodiversity and a sustainable water balance, the report continues. The innovative concept of the footbridge aims to offer pedestrians and cyclists a direct and attractive connection through the centre of Spreitenbach.

The construction of the boardwalk uses wood as the main building material, which not only reduces the carbon footprint, but also contributes to less disruption to the surrounding area during the construction phase due to the speed of assembly.

The municipal council will now compile the basis for credit approval at the next municipal assembly, according to the press release.
