Running for Future Generations

On October 29 and 30, the real estate industry will once again be running for more than just its own fitness. The 12th Global Real Estate Run combines physical activity, team spirit, and the industry’s commitment to being generation-friendly. Anyone who jogs or walks six kilometers turns their individual steps into a visible impact. A tree will be planted for every kilometer covered.

The Global Real Estate Run is a hybrid team event. Individuals, companies, neighborhoods, and people from the real estate industry are all welcome to participate. The six-kilometer route can be completed at a location of the participant’s choice during the two days of the event.

The event app tracks activity via geotagging. Runners will need about 30 minutes to complete the course, while walkers will take about an hour. This format lowers the barrier to entry—no travel required, no fixed start time—yet it’s a shared event with global reach.

Exercise Makes a Difference
The run combines personal health with a message to the industry. Real estate shapes how people live, work, and spend their free time. At the same time, the construction, operation, and renovation of buildings have a significant impact on energy consumption, resource use, and climate impact.

The initiative aims to raise awareness among property owners and real estate professionals about sustainable and energy-efficient innovations. The organizers are collaborating with partners umuntu and Grow My Tree on the tree-planting efforts and are also supporting projects such as wild bee havens.

One kilometer plants one tree
The principle is deliberately simple. Six kilometers equals six trees. Participants’ efforts are translated into a concrete ecological contribution. The goal is not to offset the climate impact of real estate through a running event. Rather, it is about making responsibility more visible and fostering a shared sense of community.

The results so far show that this model resonates with people. Across all events held to date, 7,327 people in more than 60 countries on six continents have participated. Together, they covered 43,962 kilometers. According to the organizers, this resulted in the planting of over 46,200 trees and an estimated annual offset of approximately 1,016,400 kilograms of CO₂ equivalents.

Teams Build Connections
The run offers companies more than just a wellness program. It creates an accessible platform for team culture and interaction. Employees, customers, partner organizations, and neighbors can connect outside the usual routine of projects and meetings.

This sends a particularly fitting message for an industry that shapes long-term spaces for future generations. Sustainability isn’t just about certificates, metrics, and technical solutions. It requires people who network, share responsibility, and keep moving forward together.

The twelfth edition will take place on Thursday and Friday, October 29 and 30, 2026. You can participate alone or as a team. Registration is available via the official Global Real Estate Run platform.

Six kilometers alone won’t transform the real estate industry. But they can spark a conversation that leads to further progress—toward healthier work environments, better buildings, and an industry that builds not just for today.
