The Twerenbold Reisen Group has broken ground on a new travel terminal in Frauenfeld. From 2028, the new building is also set to house the new headquarters for the staff of Excellence Cruises – Reisebüro Mittelthurgau.
The Twerenbold Reisen Group, based in Baden, has broken ground on a new travel terminal in Frauenfeld. According to a press release, the new building, located on the A7 motorway, will also house the new headquarters of Excellence Cruises. The travel company, part of the Twerenbold Reisen Group, is relocating from Weinfelden to Frauenfeld. Construction is due to be completed in 2028.
The location of the new building in the Im Alexander 5 district offers excellent transport links. Situated directly on the motorway, the terminal can be reached by public transport from the centre of Frauenfeld in eight minutes. The futuristic new building in Frauenfeld was designed by the Winterthur-based firm Strut Architekten. The building will be heated and cooled entirely by air-source heat pumps. A photovoltaic system will supply up to 120,000 kilowatt hours of solar power annually. The use of CO2-intensive concrete in the substructure has been largely avoided. A rainwater cistern is intended to cover almost all the water consumption of the bus wash facility. The terminal will include a lounge with cafés and is intended to serve as a meeting place for travellers. Sixteen departure platforms, as well as two for cycle tours, are planned. Spacious workspaces are designed to improve the working environment for staff.
“The values and approach of Strut Architekten are a perfect fit for the Twerenbold Reisen Group. Their forward-looking buildings stand for innovation and sustainability. In this respect, they are fully in line with our corporate philosophy,” says Karim Twerenbold, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Twerenbold Reisen Group, in the press release. “The travel terminal in Frauenfeld marks a new milestone in our business commitment to Eastern Switzerland. We are convinced of the excellent transport links at the site and look forward to taking the comfort of departure for our guests from the region to a whole new level. At the same time, we are creating attractive workplaces for our employees with optimal working conditions.”
