Westfalen Gas Switzerland (WGS), a subsidiary of the Münster-based German Westfalen Group, is expanding its filling plant in Eiken and creating new capacity in the international industrial gases business. According to a statement marking the official ground-breaking ceremony, the plant expansion is aimed at “becoming the preferred industrial gas partner for small and medium-sized enterprises in Switzerland”, as WGS Managing Director Tony Moes is quoted as saying.

An investment in the tens of millions has been announced, which is expected to almost double production capacity. The filling plant at WCS’s headquarters in Eiken is an important location for the European business. “With this expansion, we are laying the foundations for further growth in Switzerland whilst strengthening our European network,” says Thomas Perkmann, CEO of the Westfalen Group.

Since its foundation 25 years ago, WGS has specialised in the production, filling and trading of gases and fuels, as well as in the supply of gas appliances, plant design and the installation of gas systems.

As part of the Westfalen Group, the company states that it supplies 300 different gases and standardised gas mixtures for almost all areas of application across numerous industries. Its Swiss customers include medium-sized companies from the beverage industry, the pharmaceutical industry, laboratories, the medical sector, and the welding and cutting sectors. The product range focuses on the atmospheric gases nitrogen, oxygen and argon, supplemented by acetylene and hydrogen. In addition, carbon dioxide and helium are gaining in importance.
