Modernisation improves vertical mobility in a high-rise complex
The UOB Plaza modernisation project is featured in the April issue of *Elevator World* magazine. As part of the project, Schindler fitted the twin towers of UOB Plaza in Singapore with new lifts, escalators and smart mobility technologies between 2022 and 2025.
Schindler’s UOB Plaza modernisation project was featured in an article in the April issue of *Elevator World* magazine. The project was carried out by Schindler Lifts (Singapore) Pte Ltd between May 2022 and August 2025. A modernised vertical transport system comprising 33 new lifts, eleven new escalators and Schindler PORT technology was installed in the striking twin towers of UOB Plaza in Singapore.
“The article ‘Preserving the Past, Building for the Future’ highlights a balanced approach to modernisation and engineering that enhances both operations and the tenant experience,” explains Schindler in the press release.
As part of the project, Schindler replaced the old system with 33 new lifts, including double-deck lifts, and 11 escalators, two of which are Schindler INTRUSS escalators. In addition, intelligent mobility technology was integrated using Schindler PORT and Schindler Lobby Vision, enabling facial recognition, real-time monitoring, connected systems and predictive maintenance.
The modernisation has reduced average waiting times by 45 per cent, thereby improving the passenger experience. Furthermore, passenger flow during peak hours has been significantly improved thanks to a 15 to 20 per cent increase in throughput capacity.
