Feasibility study explores new prospects for sport and housing
Halter AG has launched a feasibility study, in collaboration with the City of St. Gallen, into the refurbishment of the Kreuzbleiche sports hall. The sports hall is important for handball and floorball, and also plays a significant role in grassroots sport.
Halter AG, a real estate and construction firm based in Schlieren, is carrying out a feasibility study for the City of St. Gallen on the refurbishment of the Kreuzbleiche sports hall. According to a press release, the sports facility requires modern infrastructure to support both elite and grassroots sport and, after nearly 50 years of operation, is in need of comprehensive refurbishment and upgrading. The feasibility study will also examine the possibility of incorporating residential use.
The sports hall at the Kreuzbleiche site is located at one of five key sports hubs in the city. It is used as a multifunctional facility by schools, for grassroots sport and for elite sport. The need for renewal is particularly acute in terms of infrastructure in order to meet today’s “requirements for a modern indoor sports and events arena”. There is no alternative to a structural and operational upgrade in order to “sustainably position the city as an efficient, attractive and forward-looking indoor sports venue at regional, national and international level”, the statement says. Handball and floorball, in particular, require a structural and operational environment that does justice to their importance, as these two sports are developing dynamically.
The feasibility study is being supported by municipal and cantonal departments. Requirements relating to elite and grassroots sport, urban planning, architecture, townscape, heritage protection, landscape and open space, financing, operations and planning law play a central role in the preparation of the study. Based on a “coherent overall solution”, a decision will be made as to whether the implementation envisaged by the city can be pursued.
Halter AG can draw on its experience in developing, implementing and operating similar projects, including the recently opened Pilatus Arena in Kriens near Lucerne.
