Elle a mis au point une m&eacute;thode permettant d&rsquo;influencer le flux d&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute; dans des couches m&eacute;talliques extr&ecirc;mement fines &agrave; temp&eacute;rature ambiante &agrave; l&rsquo;aide de la lumi&egrave;re. Cette nouvelle approche pourrait contribuer &agrave; rendre les capteurs optiques et les dispositifs d&rsquo;information quantiques beaucoup plus efficaces &agrave; l&rsquo;avenir. Les r&eacute;sultats interm&eacute;diaires des chercheurs ont &eacute;t&eacute; publi&eacute;s dans la prestigieuse revue &laquo;&nbsp;Science Advances&nbsp;&raquo;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La base de l&rsquo;&eacute;tude repose sur des couches ultrafines de dioxyde de ruth&eacute;nium (RuO2) d&eacute;pos&eacute;es sur du dioxyde de titane (TiO2). Selon leur direction, ces couches r&eacute;agissent diff&eacute;remment non seulement &agrave; la lumi&egrave;re, mais aussi au flux d&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute;. La structure de ces couches permet de contr&ocirc;ler de mani&egrave;re cibl&eacute;e la dynamique des &eacute;lectrons et donc de r&eacute;guler les flux d&rsquo;&eacute;nergie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>De nouvelles voies gr&acirc;ce &agrave; l&rsquo;utilisation cibl&eacute;e de la lumi&egrave;re<br><\/strong>L&rsquo;un des principaux r&eacute;sultats obtenus par les chercheurs est que des modifications cibl&eacute;es de la structure atomique permettent d&rsquo;influencer avec pr&eacute;cision les r&eacute;actions du mat&eacute;riau &agrave; la lumi&egrave;re. Cet effet contr&ocirc;l&eacute; se produit &agrave; des temp&eacute;ratures ordinaires et ouvre des perspectives passionnantes pour des applications futures. &laquo;&nbsp;C&rsquo;est la premi&egrave;re fois que quelqu&rsquo;un met en &eacute;vidence une relaxation ultra-rapide directionnelle et accordable des porteurs de charge dans un m&eacute;tal &agrave; temp&eacute;rature ambiante&nbsp;&raquo;, confirme Seunggyo Jeong, post-doctorant &agrave; la facult&eacute; de g&eacute;nie chimique et de science des mat&eacute;riaux de l&rsquo;universit&eacute; du Minnesota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De telles d&eacute;couvertes remettent en question de nombreuses id&eacute;es re&ccedil;ues sur le comportement des m&eacute;taux au cours des derni&egrave;res ann&eacute;es et d&eacute;montrent qu&rsquo;il est possible de cibler l&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute; par des impulsions lumineuses contr&ocirc;l&eacute;es. Cela ouvre la voie &agrave; de nouvelles approches de la gestion de l&rsquo;&eacute;nergie et du traitement de l&rsquo;information dans un espace restreint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Contr&ocirc;ler l&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute; en d&eacute;tail<br><\/strong>Jusqu&rsquo;&agrave; pr&eacute;sent, le consensus en physique consid&eacute;rait que les m&eacute;taux n&rsquo;&eacute;taient pas adapt&eacute;s &agrave; des m&eacute;canismes de contr&ocirc;le aussi pr&eacute;cis, car ils poss&egrave;dent des propri&eacute;t&eacute;s &eacute;lectroniques trop complexes. L&rsquo;&eacute;quipe de recherche actuelle a cependant d&eacute;couvert que c&rsquo;est pr&eacute;cis&eacute;ment cette complexit&eacute;, appel&eacute;e entrelacement de bandes, qui peut &ecirc;tre activement utilis&eacute;e pour orienter la r&eacute;ponse ultrarapide des m&eacute;taux dans diff&eacute;rentes directions. Il en r&eacute;sulte que la propri&eacute;t&eacute; du mat&eacute;riau &agrave; contr&ocirc;ler l&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute; peut &ecirc;tre adapt&eacute;e en fonction de la situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De nouvelles applications dans les domaines de l&rsquo;informatique, du stockage de donn&eacute;es, des capteurs et des communications pourraient en b&eacute;n&eacute;ficier massivement. L&rsquo;efficacit&eacute; et la vitesse des composants pourraient notamment &ecirc;tre nettement am&eacute;lior&eacute;es par le contr&ocirc;le cibl&eacute; de l&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute;. Tony Low, co-auteur et professeur d&rsquo;ing&eacute;nierie &eacute;lectrique et informatique &agrave; l&rsquo;universit&eacute; du Minnesota, souligne que les r&eacute;sultats fournissent un aper&ccedil;u profond de la fa&ccedil;on dont de subtiles distorsions structurelles peuvent modifier la structure &eacute;lectronique des m&eacute;taux.
