As part of the comprehensive renovation work, the stone wool producer is replacing its cupola furnaces, which were previously operated with coking coal, with an electric melting furnace. Flumroc AG will cover the energy requirements of the electric melting furnace entirely with certified, sustainable electricity from Swiss hydropower. With the conversion of the production process, Flumroc is reducing its CO2 emissions by 80 percent and thus massively improving its ecological footprint. “For the future, we need climate-friendly solutions in all areas – including industry. Our customers, our environment, the Flums site and our company all benefit from the renewal,” says Flumroc managing director Damian Gort. The commissioning of the plants is expected to take place in the summer of 2023.
