From 10 August to 2 September 2026, the plans for Freie-Strasse, Rathausplatz, Rheinstrasse, Promenade, Z\u00fcrcherstrasse-Vorstadt and Ringstrasse will be on public display in Frauenfeld. This brings the next concrete phase of construction for the town centre a step closer, following the approval by voters in 2022 of a framework loan of 11.3 million Swiss francs.<\/p>\n
At its core, this involves more than just new surfacing. The city and the canton are simultaneously reorganising key transport routes and public spaces, with more room for pedestrians and cyclists, accessible bus stops, additional green spaces and a traffic management system designed to ensure accessibility for businesses, cars and emergency services.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Subject to any appeals,the first phase<\/strong>\u2013 Z\u00fcrcherstrasse in the suburbs \u2013 is scheduled to be carried out from 2027 to 2028. Freie-Strasse, Rheinstrasse, Rathausplatz and Ringstrasse are planned for 2028 to 2029. The Promenade will follow from 2030. For property owners, retailers and the hospitality sector in the city centre, this means that the regeneration will not take place all at once, but will be carried out in stages over several years, affecting day-to-day operations as work progresses.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>The redevelopment will be particularly noticeable along the Promenade. There, the existing trees are to be replaced and a third row of trees added. This will be complemented by the removal of paving and the creation of more flexible public spaces. In other sections too, Frauenfeld is focusing on additional trees, new open spaces, green facades and improved pedestrian crossings. This will not only change the townscape but also enhance the usability of public spaces in front of retail premises, catering establishments and historic buildings.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>The plans clearly address the classic conflict of priorities in town centres. On the one hand, shared spaces, green spaces and safe crossings are to be created. On the other hand, the town insists that parking, delivery access and accessibility for businesses must be maintained. On Freie-Strasse, therefore, a partial relocation and reorganisation of parking spaces is planned, whilst on Rheinstrasse a balanced mix of delivery areas, parking spaces, benches, cycle parking and motorbike parking spaces is envisaged.<\/p>\n
\u2019 line. The town centre projects form part of the agglomeration programme. For Frauenfeld, this is more than just a minor consideration, as federal grants for transport infrastructure are available to enhance the town centre.
