Since 9 July 2026, the planning application for the refurbishment of Gimenenstrasse and the construction of a new bus turning area with a turning loop on municipal plot GS 3172 has been on public display in the city of Zug. Plans also include a new footpath, the relocation of the current terminus and a bus shelter with toilet facilities. This means that, for the time being, the focus in Gimenen is not on housing development but on improving transport links.<\/p>\n
This step is in line with the current planning situation. In the municipal structure plan dated January 2025, the city identifies improved transport links and a bus turning loop as key development elements for Gimenen. At the same time, the use of the site for housing remains open, as the approximately 11,000-square-metre site would first require rezoning, followed by a quality assurance process.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>The project currently on public display extends from the Hasenb\u00fcelweg turn-off to the future bus turning loop. The carriageway is to be widened and a footpath added. The redevelopment addresses operational and safety-related shortcomings at the current terminus, where buses have so far been unable to turn round in a proper loop. For the development of the neighbourhood, this is more than just a minor detail, because without more efficient access, it is virtually impossible to plan for future increases in land use on the hillside plot in a viable manner.<\/p>\n
<\/strong>Politically, Gimenen remains linked to the \u20182,000 flats for Zug\u2019s middle class\u2019 initiative, which was adopted in 2023. The city itself notes that the initiative must first be transposed into local law. In the second reading of the local planning revision, which the Municipal Council is due to debate from October 2026, affordable housing will once again take centre stage. For Gimenen, however, this does not yet mean the start of construction, but rather the establishment of zoning regulations, procedures and clarification of the building possibilities in this challenging location.<\/p>\n
\u2019<\/strong>neighbourhood<\/strong>With the road project, the city is implementing part of its neighbourhood objectives ahead of the housing development. In addition to the bus turning loop, the master plan also provides for improvements to open spaces and additional footpaths and cycle routes in the area. This makes it clear to property owners, planners and local politicians the order in which the site will be developed.
