Zurich Airport Ltd<\/a> has drawn up and submitted reports and plans for the two planning permission applications relating to the extension of runways 28 and 32. These will be available for public inspection from 1 to 30 June, according to a press release<\/a>. Zurich voters approved the extensions in March 2024.<\/p>\n

Only \u201cminor structural work\u201d is required for the extension of runway 32, as it would take place within the existing airport perimeter. Depending on the progress of the approval procedures, the aim is to start construction in 2030 at the earliest, with a construction period of approximately two years. For Runway 28, too, 2030 is the earliest possible start date for construction. However, this will require \u201cextensive earthworks, the diversion of the Glatt river and adjustments to the land-side road, cycle, pedestrian and utility infrastructure\u201d, meaning that the construction period is expected to be seven to eight years.<\/p>\n

The extension of Runway 28 is intended to improve safety margins for landings and aborted take-offs, as well as to reduce delays and evening and night-time noise. The extension of Runway 32 would allow almost all heavy long-haul aircraft to take off from there, thereby preventing runway crossings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
