After several months of waiting, planning permission has been granted for the upcoming renovation<\/span> work on the Kreislaufhaus building<\/a> at the Franck site<\/a> in Basel. According to a press release, work is now set to begin on the conversion of the former tube factory. Scaffolding will soon be erected around the largest building on the site.<\/p>\n

Initial work, for which no permits were required, was already started last year, such as the dismantling of the plant equipment needed for the former production facility. New vacuum windows have also been installed.<\/p>\n

The conversion of the building is being designed in accordance with the principles of the circular economy. The sanitary facilities and water circuits are to be designed as circular systems, including local water treatment and nutrient recovery. Furthermore, the installation of a so-called ‘second-life’ photovoltaic system is intended to demonstrate that the circular economy can also be implemented in energy generation.<\/p>\n

The Circular House is planned as a centre of excellence for the circular economy in the Basel region. From spring 2027, office, studio and workshop spaces will be available there for start-ups, small businesses and other organisations working together on circular and sustainable solutions, whether in the textile, food or construction sectors.<\/p>\n

The approximately 12,000-square-metre Franck site is set to become a vibrant meeting place for various sections of the population. In addition to the Kreislaufhaus, its development is based on three further focal points: the Tanzhaus as a centre for contemporary dance, the neighbourhood as a meeting place for the local community and the city, and sustainable housing projects for a diverse resident population.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
