Zurich North America<\/a>, the Schaumburg, Illinois-based North American representative of Zurich-based insurer Zurich<\/a>, has unveiled a video telematics initiative aimed at the construction industry as part of National Construction Safety Week in the US. According to a press release<\/a>, the aim is to convert real-time insights from the construction industry into safer driving behaviour.<\/p>\n

As part of the initiative, participating customers transmit video data from their fleet vehicles to Zurich. Based on this driving data, the insurer is developing a coaching programme that is tailored to construction players and is intended to contribute to safer fleet operations. The aim is to reduce safety risks associated with commercial vehicle operations in construction companies.<\/p>\n

The telematics programme is part of the broader Zurich Resilience Solutions strategy. This risk management strategy for the construction industry combines underwriting, claims handling, data analytics and on-site risk engineering measures. This includes technology-enabled construction site transparency tools, engineer-driven safety programmes and enhanced occupational health and safety approaches.<\/p>\n

As part of this strategy, Zurich has been working with Arrowsight since last year and has implemented camera-based coaching on large construction projects. A test run of the camera technology, which was carried out on a total of nine construction projects with a total value of more than USD 2 billion, resulted in an over 50 per cent reduction in the frequency of occupational accident insurance claims.<\/p>\n
